Today was a travel day, but Don didn’t feel the need for a very early start, ‘cause we weren’t traveling very far. We had a pleasant morning walk back into the fields behind the RV Park, and I found some fairly decent grass to roll in. We got underway about eleven or so, heading north on Interstate 5, following the course of the Columbia River. We had some nice views of Mount St. Helens, later replaced by striking views of Mount Rainier. A little traffic in Tacoma and below Redmond, but otherwise not too bad.
We pulled into Lake Pleasant RV Park in the early afternoon, and I really wanted to get out of the coach and mingle with all of the people hanging around the Office area. But no, I had to stay aboard while Geri and Don took care of the check-in business. We got assigned to a very nice site, with good grass and shrubs, and Don proceeded to get the rig set up for living. Everything went well, except when he tried to get the satellite antenna aligned to pick up the DirecTV signal. He wasn’t having much luck, finding only one heading that gave him a very poor signal. He was getting a little exasperated, and muttering some things I didn’t really understand. Finally, he threw the remote on the table and turned his back on the TV. Immediately, Fox News came on in all its glory, with only minor interference. Guess he found the magic words.
Geri took me out for a nice walk, and we met a black Lab and a Pointer, both of whom were very friendly, and who lived in Auburn, California. The door to their folks’ camper was wide open, so I knew that they would appreciate a visit from me, while Geri played kickball with the other dogs. Unfortunately, there was no food out for visitors. Otherwise, a pleasant visit. We got back to the coach, and Don was starting to prepare dinner. It was getting to be a little late for my meal, and I reminded Don that the schedule was starting to slip. He looked out the door, and told me to forget dinner, there was someone coming that I had to greet. He took me to the door of the coach, and there stood Gary, my old mentor and tormentor! I always have mixed emotions when I see Gary after a long absence. I’m really glad to see him, ‘cause I know that he had everything to do with training me to be the Best Dog In The World, but I’m also a little afraid, as I know that he can be severely critical at any lapses in my behavior. So, I found myself groveling in the stairway of the coach, while my tail gave away my pleasure at seeing him. I wound up sitting on my couch with him, while he petted me and praised me for turning out to be the nice guy that I am.
We had dinner at the picnic table next to the coach, and I got some good yam skin plates. After dinner, we all sat around and talked, and I got to sit with Gary, though I think it made Don kind of jealous. Oh, well, he’ll get over it. I’m hoping we stay here for awhile, I really like it here, and I like getting to spend some time with Gary. Ciao and good night!
Gary's here!
Pleased to see you!
Me and my Mentor!
